Look at this album cover. Artistic. Regal. Sexy. Simplified. Ethereal. It is the cover art for Sade’s forthcoming Soldier Of Love, an album Sade fans have been anticipating since Prohibition was repealed, and it is absolutely gorgeous. With the recent spate of ostentatious and gauche cover art from the Pop sector, it is a great relief to see an example that manages to be subtle, sexy and aesthetically pleasing all at once. Sade has never been known for over-the-top anything, so this approach is likely and fitting for her, and I do not expect the aforementioned offenders and their ilk to take a cue from her. However, I don’t care how “theatrical” anyone’s music is, we need to stop with the shitty typography, obnoxious colors, and desperate attempts at Warholism. It’s fucking offensive and an insult to my eyes. Thank you Sade.
