15.April.2008: La La La
I guess the fun part of listening to these Hard Candy snippets is differentiating between Pharrell's crap and Timbaland's crap. Anyone wanna play that game? Because they are starting to sound alike. Por exemple, "Candy Store" produced by The Neptunes sounds like Nelly Furtado's "No Hay Igal" produced by Timbaland, and when I first heard "No Hay Igal" I wanted to believe it was the Neptunes even though we already knew Timbaland was behind it. So basically Timbaland and Pharrell are fucking and their post-coital "leavings" are what make up Hard Candy. Back when they did Justified, the Neps were the "funky" ones and Timbaland was the "eerie, futuristic" one. Their roles and sounds were clearly defined. Have the roles reversed? Has the top become the bottom and vice versa? Who knows? But too much of both of them on high-profile projects at the same time these days is like listening to two big-ass robots crash into each other over and over again. I could have sworn "No Hay Igual" was produced by neptunes as well....isn't that Pharrel's voice at the beginning???
im just sayin ;)
i can still tell the difference between the two super producers...the neptunes beats always have a hallow-like core feel to them...never completely solid feeling while Timb's always is full and brash with a bounce/swag to it.
