16.December.2007: Juvenile R&B Must Die

"Calm down. You can pick out as many isolated incidents or songs that you want but at the end of the day Mariah and Beyonce records are calculated marketing projects. "Mainstream" isn't necessarily an insult. It is what it is. The thing some of you folks fail to understand is that Mary can be mainstream, but she can also be old school and alternative whereas the ladies she mentioned cannot, or choose not to. Beyonce is at her best on old school funky sounding tracks like "Work it Out" and "Suga Mama", but most of her stuff leans toward what the rappers and popstars are doing. She's made her choice, or the choice was made for her. Back in the day, Mariah was more of an adult contemporary artist, now she makes chickenhead music. Mariah has been out the same amount of time as Mary and Mary has dipped her toe in a much broader range of musical genres while still retaining her soulful base. So, yes, I understand that Beyonce and Mariah are the princesses of the industry, but Mary is the queen. She's gonna do what she wants and say what she wants, and even when she has a bad album, she picks right back up and keeps it moving without suffering backlash or exhaustion. There has also never been a time in Mary's career where you'll find people saying how sick they are of her and how much she needs to sit down. So relax. Mary has pretty much earned the right to make these comments, although you're making them more offensive than they really are." --nOva

Maybe it's because I'm pushing 30 that I have a better perspective on these things, but I swear these youngin's will go to bat over their chickenhead music. Let go and let God.

I'm sorry, but her comments sound unprofessional and rude. She is just as mainstream as the other artist mentioned. She is not Biork or Dido.

Go sit down Mary.

Sorry but, all three of those heffas need to sit down and swallow 2 chill pills every day for about 3 years. I need a break from all of em (and im also nearing 30).

I have heard plenty of people say they're sick of Mary. All of that non melodic hollerin and screaming during her live performances wouldnt even be welcome in a baptist choir. She needs surgery on her larynx or something.

But anyway, to get back to the point, I dont think her comments should have been taken so negatively.

Some people go overboard, all Mary was saying is that she was trying to make music that she is happy about and not music just for the sake of having a hit. Mariah Carey has been singing about the same ol' shit for YEARS, she isn't any less talented but she comes out with CDs for the sake of having huge sells not to express her feelings. And for those people who say the Emancipation of Mimi was her being personal, child please Mariah would have came out with that CD even if she had never meet Tommy Mottola because that is what she is about.

I knew I officially became "old school" when people were bitching about how Janet's new song sounds like Rihanna or Britney. HELLO? Rihanna and Britney sound like JANET! Damn youngins!

If Mary really made those comments she is a HUGE HIPOCRYTE... she is such a product, and takes good care of her image to be as mainstream as possible. Gucci girl she is no alternative nothing and she copied Mariah "WBT" in such a blatant way and swaggerjacjets sooo much. so, yeah go sit down Mary.

I so agree with you on this one and anyone that doesn't obviously has not listened to the Growing Pains CD. That CD alone would let you know that Mary is in a class by herself. Neither Mariah nor Beyonce (as mush as I love her too) could have pulled off that sound. It's fresh, it a change of pace, she owns it for the entire record and she is not just talking about clubbing and drinking and hanging out. But, then again, I;m pushing 30 now too. Dayum...I heard this girl talking about how her mother used to play MJB as she got dressed for school and that's why she loves Mary. I'm like, WTF!!! I was like 13 when "You Remind Me" came out. Man we gettting old. lol
