One thing that never ceases to amaze me about my people is our unfailing ability to rally behind black celebrities when they’re in trouble. It doesn’t matter how much we dogged them in the past.
I look at the Cheerleaders for Star Jones and I cannot help but be a little mystified. I would never say she was reviled in the black community, but a fair share of us had some nasty things to say about her. Now she has been permanently removed from The View and suddenly she’s a martyr.
Sound familiar?
Back in the day, OJ Simpson didn’t rate very high as a figure black folks loved. We pretty much wrote him off as a Tom that was living a white life with his white wife and playing some white-ass golf. We thought he was a sell-out. Suddenly he got his “N***a Wake Up Call” when he became a prime suspect in wife’s murder. Black folk were back on his side once again, because he was only being investigated because he’s black right?
Same goes for one Michael Jackson. No one was more highly criticized within the black community than ol’ MJ. Then he got his “N***a Wake Up Call” when charges of molestation were levied against him. And we were down for Mike once again.
It’s an interesting pattern.
I’m not here posing a question or looking for answers. It’s just an observation. Feel free to discuss.
ROTFLMAO. So true. So true.
I ain’t neva liked Star or her big gay Al.
I’m DEFINITELY not behind Star. I use to like her way back, but I’ve been a hater for years now, especially around the time she started using The View to get freebies for her wedding. And don’t get me started with the over the top wedding.
Now, I didn’t see anything wrong with her announcement on The View concerning her departure. She told the truth, but I still believe it was her attitude that got her fired. Nothing or no one can tell me different. While I’m not rejoicing over her firing, I ain’t exactly sad about it either. She did it to herself.
Not so true. Like a lot of White people, you speak with a lot of generalities but NO specifics.
And how do you know that a lot of Blacks dissed Star, OJ or MJ? You mean YOUR CIRCLE of friends?
Not everybody is a gossip, and not EVERYBODY is on the “Why do BLACKS always…..” bandwagon.
I don’t think all Black people think alike or hate everybody else in sync with one another.
This is one of those “catergorizations” that I greatly dislike that BLACKS and Whites alike perpetuate.
It’s like that time that Oprah broadly stated that “Black people don’t swim.”
Which BLACK PEOPLE is she speaking of and why does she feel that she can SPEAK for everyone?
chicago, broad generalizations and blanket statements are a staple of novaslim.com. You have stumbled upon one of the least politically correct sites on the net. to that end, catch the context honey, it’s not that deep.
Don’t forget R. Kelly. When does his trial start?
Oh well, I guess me and my circle of friends and a aquaintances must do this, seeing at the we are black, and encounter different types of people in our own community, but sadly, the closed-minded, bling(d) faith types seem to shout the loudest.
While I can’t speak for our people dissing our own stars one minute, but many black people DO rally behind them then next minute, regardless of how great the crime.
As far as Star’s concerned, I’m not worried about her. She’s a lawyer for God’s sake, and she’ll find some way to make money, and unlike Michael Jackson, she’s not batshit crazy. Obnoxious, yes, but not crazy.
